Burntisland is a coastal town with a historic harbour. Once known for shipbuilding, sea trading and coal, it thrived as a seaside resort in the Victorian era due to its fine sandy beaches and remains popular today.
The town contains many fine historic buildings which make for a pleasant stroll. These include Rossend Castle, once visited by Mary Queen of Scots and now in private ownership, and some handsome Victorian architecture. The local parish church of St Columba dates from the 16th century and has an interesting square-built style.
Burntisland is also home to two unique museums. The Burntisland Edwardian Fair Museum has exhibits on local history and all the fun of the fair. The enthusiast-run Museum of Communication covers the history of everything from telegraphy, TV and radio to satellite communications and radar.
