Falkland is a picturesque and historic village crammed with wonderful old buildings flanking its impressive market place, and quaint cobbled streets with stone cottages. Behind the village the high hills provide a lovely backdrop.
At its centre is Falkland Palace, a magnificent 16th century royal hunting lodge with a distinctive Gatetehouse of two massive circular towers. Partially ruined and partially restored in the 19th century, it remains a large and impressive building, and set in beautiful grounds.
