Kirkcaldy is a large seaside town on the Firth of Forth, which has a long history as an important trading port. It is a bustling place good for shopping, and at Easter hosts the Links Market on the seafront, the longest street fair in Europe and a tradition stretching back 700 years.
The Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery has a splendid collection of Scottish paintings as well as permanent and temporary exhibitions of local history and arts. Nearby Dysart has a unique coastal centre housed in the 17th century Harbourmaster's House, showcasing Fife's connections with the sea.
Other attractions within Kirkcaldy include the ruin of Ravenscraig Castle set in parkland within the town, in a defensive position on the shoreline with solid circular towers.
