The attractive small market town of Mold is set in the heart of Flintshire, with some fine old buildings and good shops and cafes to potter around in.
The town still hosts street markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, as well as a traditional livestock market and a monthly farmers market selling the best and freshest local produce. The local appeciation of eating is also evidenced in the popular annual Mold Food Festival.
The town has a long history, stretching back to at least the Bronze Age. Mold is famous for the stunning solid gold Mold Cape dating back to around 1900BC. The original is in the British Museum, but you can see a replica on display in the town. Mold Castle is a ruined Norman fortress dating from the 12th century.
Mold is also home to Clwyd Theatr Cymru, a renowned large theatre and art gallery complex.
