Talacre is famed for its glorious sandy beach and dunes which stretch for miles.
The area is also a RSPB reserve, protected for the numerous bird species such as waders and waterfowl in the salt marshes. The dunes are also a habitat for the rare Natterjack toad.
There is a particularly attractive lighthouse on the sands. Point of Ayr was built in 1776, and stories of its haunting by a ghostly lighthouse keeper inspired a modern sculpture of a metal figure, which now looks out over the sea from the top of the tower.
