| The Wakes, High Street, Selborne, on west side of B3006, 4 miles north-west of the A3 A garden around the 18th century house,once the home of the Rev. Gilbert White. Restored to resemble Gilbert White's original garden. Features a wooden ha-ha, , the 'six quarters', a laburnam arch, topiary and a fragrant herb garden. Many of the plants Gilbert White loved are still grown here. The house is owned by the Oates Memorial Trust and there is a museum devoted to the Antartic explorer. more information |
| Near Alresford, 8 miles east of Winchester, off A272 In the 1930's Ralph Dutton, the 8th and last Lord Sherborne remodelled the Victorian mansion he had inherited, creating a red-brick house for his collection of Regency furniture, Italian paintings and 'objets d'art'. The wooded landscape park provides views across the countryside. Features include a 600-foot grassy walk, a hollow known as the 'Del', and an orchard.
