A Cluniac monastery was established here in 1150, with fine views of Wenlock Edge.

Although set high up, the site was protected on three sides by ancient woodland and the monks were able to create walled, terraced, kitchen, water, wild and chess gardens.

Around 830 years later, Mr & Mrs P Trevor-Jones have created a beautiful garden amongst the ruined walls of the monastery and the ruins of a Norman Shaw manor.

The 6 acre garden has 18 different small 'outdoor rooms' leading from one to another. These superbly planted gardens are full of interest and surprise.

From the kitchen garden the visitor descends to grassy terraces, the park and a water garden.

Vegetables are grown in a parterre and other features include a separate bog garden and a fernery.

The 12th century monastic church has an venerable yew tree, said to be the oldest in Europe.
