Prior Park is a wonderful example of 18th century English landscape gardening.

The 28 acres of garden and park were created by the Bath entrepreneur Ralph Allen with advice from the poet Alexander Pope and Lancelot 'Capability' Brown.

In 1996 after three years of major restoration, costing £500,000, Prior Park was reopened by the National Trust but the work still continues today.

The sweeping valley has lawns, woods and water with magnificent views of the City of Bath. Its most important architectural feature is the pillared Palladian bridge across one of the three lakes.
