On the banks of a beautiful lake in a lovely Snowdonia valley, the market town of Bala is set in an area of breathtaking natural scenery.
The town sits at the head of Bala lake (or Llyn Tegid), a tranquil landscape with trees growing down to the shore. Home to a sailing club, watersports and adventure centres there are plenty of aquatic and land-based outdoor activities on offer. The nearby lake of Llyn Celyn is home to the National White Water Centre and its adrenilin-fuelled rafting adventures. However this beautiful area is equally suited to a gentle stroll with a view of the Aran Fawddwy mountain range - or a leisurely trip on a steam train along the Bala Lake Railway.
The town itself is a attractive friendly place, largely Welsh-speaking, and with individual shops and stone cottages. Other local attractions include the Cywain arts and crafts centre and the attractive Caerau Uchaf gardens.
