The seaside town of Barmouth is a popular resort with a traditional feel. It has fantastic wide sandy beaches and dunes, and a promenade from which you can enjoy fish and chips, an ice cream or visit the amusement arcades.
But the town has more than just the coastline to enjoy. Behind Barmouth are stunning wooded hills and wild mountains forming a wonderful backdrop. Set where the beautiful Mawddach estuary meets the sea, Barmouth is close to many lovely walks with fantastic scenery. The Mawddach Trail is a cycle and foot path which loops round the estuary, crossing back along the amazingly long and low wooden railway bridge.
Just across the water, accessible by pedestrian ferry is the narrow-gauge Fairbourne Steam Railway. These tiny locomotives travel along a narrow stretch of sandy coastline, and are particularly loved by children. Back in Barmouth the RNLI Lifeboat Station is open to visitors and holds regular events.
