Llanberis tourist information
Set amongst stunning mountain scenery, the lovely village of Llanberis is the ideal starting point for a visit to Snowdonia National Park.
The easiest path to the summit of Mount Snowdon starts in the village, along with numerous other walking and climbing routes. If you don't fancy walking to the 1,085m summit there is always the Snowdon Mountain Railway, operating since 1896. The fantastic modern visitor centre and cafe at the top offers incredible views.
Llanberis has another wonderful railway running along the valley by the shores of beautiful Lake Padarn. The Llanberis Lake Railway runs vintage steam locomotives through magnificent countryside with great views of Snowdon.
Much of this scenic area forms part of Padarn Country Park, with a wealth of other visitor attractions such as the Quarry Hospital Visitor Centre, the Ropes and Ladders outdoor adventure, the National Slate Museum in the former Dinorwig Quarry, and Electric Mountain - a fascinating journey into the world of hydroelectricity deep beneath Elidir mountain. Nearby Dolbadarn Castle is a romantic ruined fortress.
