LyndhurstLyndhurst

New ForestLyndhurst, the capital of the New Forest, now a tourist centre, is the  seat of the Verderer's Court.

The Court was created by the Normans to protect the Forest, and meets every 2 months in Queen's House, a 17th century building, with a dock and a stirrup supposedly owned by William Rufus. The stirrup was also used to measure dogs, too big to pass through and they were a danger to game!.

Today the town has shops, cafe's etc for the modern tourist.

The Information Centre in the car park is a good place to start your visit to the New Forest.
