Portsmouth

Portsmouth
is actually on an island, with Southsea being the main residential
area.
This town is very busy with a history based on the sea, its
involvement in the Royal Navy started with Richard the Lionheart
and continues to the present day.
Popular for its naval history and as a shopping area, the
harbour is active all year around with ferries to Gosport
and around the harbour, which, after years of discussion,
is being re-developed.
The Southsea area is a resort, the "play area"
for the town, with gardens and seaside attractions.
Much of the harbour defences are still intact, and date from
Tudor times, with a castle at Southsea.
You can buy an all-in "passport" ticket which covers
the three major museums and the 3 main ships.
