Sandham Memorial Chapel, at Burghclere, north on A34, 1920's red brick building designed by Stanley Spencer, and filled with paintings inspired by his work as a medical orderly and soldier during the First World War. Wild flower filled orchard, with views to Watership Down. National Trust. National Trust Members free. Highclere Castle, on the A34 north, grand medieval-designed castle, good staircase, exhibitions, including Egyptian one as the tomb of Tutankhamen was discovered by the fifth Earl of Carnarvon who lived here.
