South HerefordshireHereford

CathedralHereford, famously home of the SAS, is a cathedral town with a medieval bridge over the River Wye. David Garrick and Nell Gwynne born here (see plaque in Gwynne Place).

Due to its age, originally founded in Saxon times, the town retains a mix of buildings from almost every British era.

There are many almshouses, often medieval in origin and the Old House (1621), All Saints Church, Kilpeck Church and  Booth Hall are worth a visit.

The cathedral, established in the 7th century, is 13th and 15th century, is an important part of the town, and has St Stephens Chair, 800 years old. Its new library has manuscripts and early books, including its Mappa Mundi,  a 13th Century view of the world on vellum, and a chained library of 1500 books..

Famous as a cider producing town, as Bulmers make the cider here.

It also has a football club !
