Rickmansworth,
the small, attractive town lies in the south-west corner of
Hertfordshire, just off the M25.
The former market town has a
charter dating from 1542. Rickmansworth's centre has
a fine conservation area which includes the church of St Mary,
with its 17th century tower.
Basing House is associated with
William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania. The River Chess
flows to the east of the town and this is joined by the River
Colne and the Grand Union Canal. The Three Rivers District
Council, the local district council, is located in the town.
The Watersmeet, a popular local
theatre, is also housed here. Set beside a bustling
stretch of the Grand Union Canal is the popular Batchworth
Lock Canal Centre. Here visitors can discover the history
of this famous waterway, explore a restored narrowboat and
watch other narrowboats in action.
Situated to the south-east of
the town is the Rickmansworth Aquadrome which features a variety
of watersports.
Rickmansworth's famous golf
course at Moor Park boasts a spectacular mansion which has
been preserved as a club house and is open to the public.
