TringTring

Tring, this small, attractive town is located in the far west of the county, midway between Hemel Hempstead and Aylsbury ( over in Buckinghamshire).

Set amid the wooded Chiltern Hills on the Ridgeway, Tring has been an important market town since the 17th century but is now mainly residential.

To the north of the town runs the Grand Union Canal.  This 200 year old waterway formed the major part of a direct canal link from London to Birmingham which helped transform Britain during the Industrial Revolution.  A number of the canal walks in Hertfordshire pass through the town.

The wealthy Rothschild family had an important influence on the town.  Their mansion in 300 acre Tring Park is now a private school.

The Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum, a department of the Natural History Museum since 1937, stands in Akeman Street, just off the High Street.
