The house was begun by Sir Henry Griffith and the original brick-built medieval manor house, with its vaulted undercroft, still survives to the west of Burton Agnes Hall and is maintained by English Heritage. Burton Agnes Hall was probably designed by Robert Smythson. Approached through a detached brick gatehouse, three-storey red-brick block has numerous rooms arounsd a courtyard. | Burton Constable Hall, the ancestral home of the Constable family, is an Elizabethan house set in open parkland and is still the family home. Rooms open to visitors with impressive interiors containing collections of paintings, prints and English furniture. The Burton Constable Foundation maintains the property.
