Dunham Massey3 miles south-west of Altrincham, off A56 In 1721 George Booth, 2nd Earl of Warrington began to remodel the original Tudor house, at the beginning of the 20th century it was remodelled again by the architect Compton Hall. In Heaton Park off Middleton Road in East Manchester Heaton Hall is a magnificent neo-classical mansion set in a beautiful 650 acre park. Once part of the estate of the Earls of Wilton, the house dates from the late 17th century. The grounds were turned into the largest municipal park in Europe with a boating lake. more information
Lyme Park6.5 miles south-east of Stockport, off A6 home of the Legh family for almost 600 years. Without being demolished this Elizabethan house has been transformed inside and out. On B5167 5 miles south of Manchester Wythenshawe Hall is a timber-framed Tudor house set amid gardens and houses a collection of paintings and drawings administered by the City Art Galleries.
