| In Heaton Park off Middleton Road in East Manchester Heaton Hall is a magnificent neo-classical mansion set in a beautiful 650 acre park. Once part of the estate of the Earls of Wilton, the house dates from the late 17th century. The grounds were turned into the largest municipal park in Europe with a boating lake. more information |

| On B5167 5 miles south of Manchester Wythenshawe Hall is a timber-framed Tudor house set amid gardens and houses a collection of paintings and drawings administered by the City Art Galleries. The estate was used to provide housing for the people of Manchester- one of the largest 'garden cities' in Europe- and Wythenshawe Park became a recreational area As well as walking there are sporting attractions in the park. more information |
