The fine coastal town of Gourock thrived in the Victorian era as a seaside resort for the population of Glasgow in need of the fresh seaside air. It is still a popular day trip today, with an attractive waterfront and beautiful views across the Firth of Clyde from the hills overlooking the town.
The town still has maritime links, with the working Cloch Lighthouse and regular services from Caledonain MacBrayne and Western Ferries across to the towns on the north of the Clyde estuary and beyond.
The surrounding area has some stunning scenery. The beautiful sandy beach at Lunderston Bay forms part of the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, and the man-made landscape of the exclusive Gourock Golf Club also allows for some outstanding views over the Clyde and surrounding hills.
