Ventnor tourist information
On the south coast of the island, Ventnor is a seaside resort known for its especially mild microclimate.
The warm conditions attracted the Victorians to holiday in Ventnor, along with its great sandy beach and clifftop scenery, known as the Undercliff. The streets wind down steeply past attractive gardens and elegant buildings to the Esplanade, ideal for a stroll along the seafront.
This busy town has a wide range of good cafes, ice cream parlours, pubs, shops and all manner of traditional seaside amusements along the beach.
The climate was also thought to have health benefits, and various sanatoriums and the Royal National Hospital for Diseases of the Chest once operated here. The grounds of the old hospital are now the beautiful Ventnor Botanic Gardens, known for the exotic subtropical and Mediterranean plants which can be grown here out of doors.
