| Battle of Flowers Museum
La Robeline, Mont des Corvées, St Ouen |
The first Battle of Flowers took
place in 1902 during a parade held to celebrate the coronation
of Edward VII. After judging flowers were torn off the
floats and thrown into the crowd. When the petals were
thrown back a battle ensued. This tradition continues
to this day and the Battle of Flowers (held every August) is
now one of the most spectacular carnivals in Europe. The
museum has the floral sculptures created for the Battle of Flowers.
The sculptures, made from harestails and marram grass, include
life-size Clydesdale horses, zebra, elephants, polar bears and
Father Christmas, pulled by 4 reindeer.

| Jersey War Tunnels
Meadowbank, Les Charrieres, Malorey, St Lawrence.

During World War II the German
forces held the Islands from 1940 to 1945. Work began
on an underground fortress.The
unfinished complex has been restored and houses 'Captive Island',
a museum of the German Occupation of Jersey. On display
are reconstructed rooms, archive films, and a collection of
Occupation memorabilia. Outside are anti-aircraft gun
positions, barbed-wire entanglements, crawl trenches, and a Garden
of Reflection.

| Channel Island Military
Museum La Grande Route des Mielles, 5 Mile Road, St
Ouen |
Located in a restored German bunker,
this museum provides a facinating insight into Jersey life during
the German Occupation. The museum contains both British
and German artifacts including uniforms, motorcycles, equipment
and paperwork. The museum is at the rear of the Jersey
Woollen Mills.

| Grève de Lecq Barracks
Grève de Lecq, St Mary |
Built between 1810 and 1815, these
barracks provided accomodation for the island's soldiers during
the Napoleonic Wars. The barracks continued to house regiments
of troops up until 1926. Many original features, including
two prison cells and an abultion block. The barracks,
now owned by the National Trust for Jersey, resemble a row of
old cottages. Interpretation centre with information on
the bay's military and social past and details of the north
coast's wildlife and footpaths. Collection of horse-drawn
carriages.

| Hamptonne Country Life
Museum La Rue de la Patente, St Lawrence |
Dating from the 15th century,
these traditional farmhouses and outbuildings were purchased
In 1987 by the National Trust for Jersey, who restored the farm's
three houses and outbuilding. Today it is run by Jersey
Heritage Trust as a living museum. Examples of Jersey's
architectural styles from the thatched Langlois House, 15th
century, to Syvret House, built in the 1830s. Guided tours,
re-enactors, who bring the site to life through role play, on
site. Collection of equipment and animals. Woodland walkway,
pond, wildflower and sensory gardens and orchard.

In St Helier close to Liberation
Square, this museum houses an extensive collection of military
equipment, arms, uniforms, field vehicles and documents.
Features include original field kitchens and rare motorbikes.

| Jersey Museum
The Weighbridge, St Helier |
This award-winning museum uses
interactive displays to celebrate the history, traditions and
culture of the island. A section of the museum is restored
to recreate 'The Merchant's House', showing the life of a wealthy
shipping family in the 18th and 19th centuries.

| La Hougue Bie
Grouville |
Located in the eastern county
of Grouville, La Hougue Bie is one of finest Neolithic passage
graves. The mound dates back 5,500 years, and was used
for ritual and ceremonial purposes. A chapel was built on top
of the mound in the 12th century, replaced by Jerusalem Chapel
and crypt in 1520. In the 18th century the chapels formed a
neo-Gothic house. First excavated in 1924, in 1931 the chapels
were restored and reconsecrated. In 1942, the Germans
built a bunker into the mound, with over 70 trenches. Now
visitors go into the burial chamber along a low tunnel and can
climb to the top of the mound. La Hougue Bie has a small
museum, Neolithic house and encampment. The German bunker
houses a memorial to the WWII slave workers.

| The Pallot Steam Museum
Rue de Bechet, Trinity |
Founded by the late Lyndon 'Don'
Pallot, who spent his early working life as a trainee engineer
on the old Jersey Railway. He collected items of Jersey's mechanical
and farming heritage, and includes steam engines, agricultural
machinery, vintage bicycles, an exhibition on Jersey Railway
and a variety of organs, including a Compton cinema organ. On
Thursdays (and Tuesdays mid-June-mid-September) visitors can
travel in Victorian coaches pulled by a steam engine from the
Victorian-style station.

| Occupation Tapestry Gallery
New North Quay, St Helier |
Housed with the Maritime Museum
in a restored granite warehouse adjacent to Liberation Square.
The Occupation Tapestry Gallery
contains 12 panels detailing aspects of life on Jersey during
the German Occupation (1940 - 1945). Each of Jersey's
12 parishes took responsibilty for stitching one of the (2-metre)
panels. The island's largest ever community project, with
the volunteers taking 36,000 hours to complete their task.
Now one of Jersey's greatest treasures, the Occupation Tapestry
was created to mark the 50th anniversary of Jersey's Liberation
and was opened by the Prince of Wales in 1995.

| Maritime Museum
New North Quay, St Helier |
Housed with the Occupation Tapestry
Gallery in a restored granite warehouse adjacent to Liberation
Square. The Museum, opened
in 1997, has inter-active and hands-on displays to explore Jersey's
maritime heritage. There are three areas - elements, boats
and people. The elements gallery illustrates the effects
of the tides, wind and waves. The boat gallery shows how
sailing craft have evolved and ship models detailing developments
in ship design. The people gallery shows the islanders'
8,000 year relationship with the sea.
