Dover, overlooking the English Channel and the UK's nearest European neighbour France, Dover is a busy port with ferry services to Europe.
Very much a working town, yet with centuries of heritage, once being the Roman walled city of Dubris. The town is still making its make on English history as the white cliffs remain forever a symbol of England seen by those departing and those arriving.
One of Henry VIII's Cinque Ports, part of his 'you can raise taxes in exchange for giving me ships' deal.
St Mary de Castro Church, Saxon, is worth a look at, and the Town Hall incorporates the 13th century Hall of Maison Dieu. In North Fall Meadow a monument to Louis Beriot can be seen, he flew across the channel in 1909. That was one of many Dover to Calais crossings by any means possible including rafts, swimming, barrels, basically any method will do as long as you get in the record books!
Tourist Information Centres in the town.
