Blackpool,
all the fun of the seaside at this most English of seaside resorts,
one of the largest with miles of sand, miles of hotels and accommodation
of all standards, lots of amusements, attractions, restaurants,
pubs, clubs, chip shops, ... everything for the happy holiday
maker. If you go in winter its windblown, cold, damp, and mostly
closed up.
Once the holiday centre of the North, with trains taking the
workers to the seaside playground in the summer during the factory
annual shutdowns. Now still a popular family resort. Lots to
do including 7 miles of beaches, the Blackpool Indoor Bowls
Centre, and the Superbowl, a 30-lane computerised ten pin centre.
There are two cinemas as well as a muti-screen, brass bands
at the bandstands, and boating lakes.
The resort has three piers, the North pier, a refurbished
Central Pier with a Big Wheel, and the South Pier that has
its own theatre.
Every autumn, early September to early November, there is
Blackpool Illuminations when the whole town lights up along
five miles. There are famous places here such as Blackpool
Tower Ballroom, the scene of dancing for many years, as well
as band concerts and shows.
Tourist Information centre in the town. A major shopping
area includes Hounds Hill Shopping Centre. To get around try
the famous trams, running on 11 miles of track.
