| Scunthorpe, originally five rural
villages, the discovery of iron ore in 1860 changed the landscape, creating the industrial
town we see today. The town has many parks
and gardens as well as facilities for sport and leisure, with cinemas, a theatre, art
gallery and museum.
Two interesting churches, St Lawrence's church,
12th century, and St John's Church built from local ironstone.
