Skegness, also
known as Skeggy, all the fun of a traditional seaside holiday
resort, lively in summer.
Originally a 19th
century resort, it prospered with the arrival of the railway
in 1863, connecting the industrial Midlands with this coast.
Skegness had the honour
of being the home of the first Butlin's holiday camp, and
it is still there, although much updated.
The sea can be cold,
but there is a swimming pool. Long promenade with gardens,
34 acres, as used by Lord Tennyson. On the seashore you can
find bowling greens, a waterway, and the Embassy Centre theatre
with summer shows (Tel: 01754 768333 for what's on)
Gibraltar Point, southern
end of the beach, looking out over the Wash is a worthwhile
walk.
Lots to do, even off
the beach.
