South LincolnshireSpalding

Spalding,the fields around are famous for their flowers, almost Dutch in the flat landscape, best in Spring.

This historic town, in the middle of the Fens, has old buildings, mainly 18th century, in streets both sides of the River Welland, which is bridged by seven bridges. 13th century church, and a 14th century inn.

The town has an internationally famous flower festival every year in May.

Small villages scattered around the flat landscape, including Surfleet, B1356, with a rather nice leaning church, you can visit the Tropical Forest, displays of tropical and sub-tropical plants, Tel: 01775 710882 on the way.Admission Charge
 
To see the Wash, take the A151 east then the A17 east before turning off to Gedney Drove End B1359, or stop at Sutton Bridge on the A17 and take Peter Scott's walk to Guy's Head with its lighthouses.
