Chiswick Bridge

Chiswick Bridge is famous for being virtually on the finishing point of the annual Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race

ChiswickThis crossing was part of a major rebuilding and improvement scheme for the Great Chertsey Road.   Twickenham Bridge and Hampton Court Bridge were also part of the plan and Chiswick Bridge was the first of the three new bridges to be opened by the Prince of Wales on 3 July 1933.

Designed by Sir Herbert Baker, Chiswick Bridge is 607 ft long and 70 ft wide between the parapets.

Chiswick Bridge is very similar in design to Twickenham Bridge. Both bridges were constructed of ferro-concrete but Chiswick Bridge was also clad with 3,400 tons of Portland stone.
