Queen's Chapel
Marlborough Road London SW1

This beautiful church was built by Inigo Jones in the 1620s for Queen Henrietta Maria, the Catholic wife of Charles I.

The Queen's Chapel was the first classical church in England.  Its magnificent interior has exquisite 17th century fittings and a superb Caracci altarpiece.

At first the chapel was intended to be part of St James's Palace but it now stands in the grounds of Marlborough House, separated from the palace by Marlborough Gate.

In 1761 George III married his queen, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (who was to bear him 15 children) in the Queen's Chapel.

Opening Times

Open: only open to the public during the 8.30 am and 11.30 am Sunday services (Easter to July).
