St
Andrew-by-the-Water lies in a little explored but charming
maze of alleyways to the south of St Paul's Cathedral, concealing
many shops and pubs.
The curious name dates from 1361,
when the King's Wardrobe, (the ceremonial clothes of
the royal family, was moved to a building nearby.
The present building, dating
from 1685 - 95, is one of 51 churches created by Sir Christopher
Wren in London after the Great Fire of 1666.
