St Mary's Battersea
Battersea Church Road, London SW11

St Mary's BatterseaA church has stood on this site since at least the 10th century, and although the present brick building dates from 1775, the stained glass depicting Tudor monarchs dates from the 17th century and comes from a former church.

Battersea has long been a favourite spot for artists and writers.  In 1782 the poet and artist William Blake married the daughter of a local market gardener at St Mary's.  Later J M W Turner painted some of his marvellous views of the Thames and its sunsets from the church tower.
