This modern riverside gallery
next to the Tate Modern
is home to the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour (RWS)
and the Royal Society of Painter/Printmakers (RE).
The RWS permanent collection
includes works by John Sell Cotman, David Cox, Russell Flint,
David Jones, John Singer Sargent and Leslie Worth. Permanent
works by the RE include pieces by Alphonse Legros, Auguste
Rodin, Walter Sickert and Graham Sutherland.
The gallery hosts regular exhibitions
of watercolours and engravings and many of these works are
for sale.
The gallery's shop sells a good
selection of books and materials.
The Founders' Arms, a public
house opposite the gallery's front entrance, was built on
the site of the foundry where the bells for St
Paul's were cast. Good for a drink and look
at the views of the Thames.
