The
Crafts Council is a national body to promote the creation
and appreciation of crafts in Britain.
Housed in an converted
Georgian house, the gallery is a show-case for contemporary
textiles, ceramics, jewellery, furniture, and printing etc.
The gallery holds special exhibitions,
which often take a theme and demonstrate work in that area.
There are also displays of some
of the 's collection of contemporary British crafts, and lectures
are held in the building.
There is a reference library
and a general crafts information service.
The Crafts Council book shop
sells a selection of modern crafts, including items from the
frequently changing exhibitions. The Crafts Council
is also responsible for the Chelsea Crafts Fair, held at Chelsea
Old Town Hall in October.
