East Street Market is best on Sunday when over 250 stalls crowd the narrow street.   A small flower and plant market is also held on Blackwood Street on Sundays.  

The stalls specialize in mostly new clothes and household and electrical goods. Good for records and tapes.  Fruit and vegetables stalls are in the minority here. 

The locals who come to this vibrant market often come to be entertained rather than buy. 

The young Charlie Chaplin, who was born in south London in 1889, regularly visited East Street Market.
