In the Middle Ages
many markets were held in churchyards and the Piccadilly Crafts
Market has rekindled this tradition - the small outdoor crafts
market is held in the paved memorial garden in front of St
James's Church Piccadilly.
The church was built
in 1676 - 84 by Sir Christopher Wren, one of 52 built by the
architect after the Great Fire of London.
The market offers
such crafts as handmade greetings cards, knitwear, T-shirts
and souvenirs.
On Tuesdays the
market is devoted to antiques.
Refreshments are
available at the vegetarian Wren Coffee House in St James's
Church.
