Housed in the historic Royal
Arsenal at Woolwich, 'Firepower' tells the history artillery,
and is getting to be a very popular museum.
The small museum opened after
15 years of fundraising and planning.
'Firepower' contains a collection
of artillery pieces ranging from the 14th century to the present
day, and has model weapons as well as real ones, and shows
the guidance systems.
The centrepiece is the 'Field
of Fire' exhibition which puts visitors in the centre of a
battle. Not glorifying conflict, the experience emphasises
the ultimate wastefulness of warfare.
The Royal Arsenal site is open
to the public for the first time since the Royal Artillery
Regiment was established in the early-18th century.
Beside the main building are
a number of other historic buildings which have been renovated
to house larger pieces of the collection.
