The Marx Memorial Library is in a 1737 building that has a long history of being a centre of radical movements.
This independent subscription library holds special collections of political history, philosophy, fiction and biographies, including International Brigades Association's archive, the Klugmann Collection, the John Williamson American Labour Movement Collection and the J D Bernal Peace Collection.
The library also has a set of the Daily Worker, later the Morning Star, archived. For researchers on working-class movements the library's collections are invaluable and scholars come here from all over the world.
Many visit to see Lenin's Room, where the Soviet leader worked on the revolutionary newspaper 'Izkra' (Spark). Lenin's desk is on display, along with original copies of the newspaper which were smuggled into Russia.
The library holds monthly lectures on such topics as communist history and feminism.
Mon, Tues and Thur 13:00-18.00; Wed 13:00-20.00. Closed: Jan and Christmas-New Year
