The National Army Museum shows the history of the British,
Indian and Colonial forces from 1485 to the present day.
The permanent displays include
ones on 'The Victorian Soldier' , 1816 - 1914, 'The Road to
Waterloo' , with 75,000 model soldiers, and 'The Modern Army'
, with accounts of the Gulf War and Bosnia.
These displays include dioramas,
tableaux and archive film clips to illustrate the major engagements.
Other exhibits include Florence Nightingale's jewellery, the
skeleton of Napoleon's Arab stallion 'Marengo', personal mementos,
uniforms and weapons.
The Art Gallery contains portraits
and prints including works by Reynolds and Gainsborough.
The museum also holds temporary
exhibitions and events.
As well as souvenirs, postcards
and books, the museum shop has a large range of model soldiers.
Next door is the Royal
Hospital Chelsea and Ranelagh Gardens, the site
of the Chelsea Flower Show.
