The Red Cross, formed in 1863,
is dedicated to humanitarian relief.
This small museum focuses on
the consequences of war. The Red Cross cares for people
in times of crisis and amongst the items on display are food
parcels sent to prisoners of war and various types of medical
equipment.
There are old posters and photographs,
and some of the collecting boxes used to raise funds for the
organisation over the years.
One of the most important exhibits
is the Changi Quilt, made by women interned in Singapore during
World War II. The women added their names into the quilt
as they sewed and when it was sent to the male section of
the prison it indicated that they were still alive.
The archives have an extensive
library, photographic collection and video library available
for researchers.
