The Royal Opera Arcade, completed
in 1818, was London's first shopping arcade beating the Burlington
Arcade by a year or so.
Designed by John Nash, the Prince
Regent's favourite, the arcade was built behind the Haymarket
Opera House, now called Her Majesty's Theatre.
The arcade, a haven away from
the traffic of central London, is noted for its luxury items
and wide range of goods for traditional country living.
Farlows, at the Pall
Mall side of the arcade, sells fishing tackle,
shooting equipment and the essential Hunters' green Wellington
boots.
