The
Barbican Arts Centre includes two theatres, a concert
hall, and a convention and an exhibition hall. It is
the home of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
The Barbican Theatre is used
for conventional productions, while the Pit concentrates on
experimental works.
Until May 2002 the Barbican Centre
was the London base of the Royal Shakespeare Company, but
is still the base of the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) and
the English Chamber Orchestra.
The English National Opera makes
visits and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has a spring season.
There are also free music concerts
in the foyer.
The Barbican Centre is difficult
to find your way around, but its quality events programme
makes it worth the effort.
