After the Royal Court Theatre,
this fringe theatre is the most important venue for new works
in London.
Opened in April 1972 in the
upstairs dining room of The Bush Hotel, the theatre has earned
a reputation for discovering outstanding new works, many by
first-time writers.
The Bush has been the spring-board
to bigger theatres for young writers, including Conor McPherson,
author of The Weir, and actors.
Many of its productions have
successfully transferred to the West End.
