In its heyday the Hackney Empire was one of London's great music halls.

Today the fine Victorian theatre, with its well-preserved interior, is still very popular with actors, comics and music-hall types. 

Over the years the Hackney Empire has had a fight to raise funds and benefit concerts have been staged to stave off closure.  However, new grants have resulted in the renovation of the building and the future looks bright for the Hackney Empire. 

The venue mostly hosts comedy with a political edge and theatre.
