The Lyric hosts many regional and foreign theatre companies, and has earned a reputation for staging more alternative mainstream work. 

Its large main stage is used as a venue for major touring companies, while the smaller, 'Studio' is given over to smaller touring fringe productions.  

Presently some redevelopment is being undertaken for opening Spring 2003, with a new season of a wide range of drama and music.
