Manchester
Airport is located 10 miles due south of the city centre.
Originally
called Ringway Airport, Manchester Airport is the third largest
international air terminal in the UK. Unlike most of the
UK's major airports Manchester Airport is not run by the British
Airports Authority (BAA). Instead the airport is managed
by Manchester Airport PLC (owned by the 10 Metropolitan Boroughs
of Greater Manchester) and is proud of its independent status.
For
visitors who wish to watch the planes, rather than fly out
of the airport, there is a spectator terrace in Terminal 1
and a viewing park on the A538, between Junction 6 on the
M56 and the airport tunnels. For general airport enquiries
