Formby,
founded as a Viking village, has very extensive sand dunes
and pinewoods between the town and the sea.
Visit
here to explore the main attraction, a wonderful stretch of
unspoilt coastline - one of the refuges in England for red
squirrels, and visitors
to the National Trust's Formby Point and Squirrel Reserve
can often see these rare squirrels in their natural habitat.
This
is also a good place for walking and birdwatching.
Nearby
Formby Golf course is a leading championship course, hosting
the Curtis Cup in 2004.
One of
our favourite places on this stretch of coastline.
