West
Kirby is
situated at the north-west corner of the Wirral.
The town boasts an elegant Victorian
promenade flanking a large marine lake. This lake allows boats
to sail even at low tide and is used for other watersports
such as windsurfing and sea-kayaking.
Just offshore, in the mouth of
estuary of the River Dee, lie three tidal islands, of which
Hibre Island is the largest. In the summer months a walk out
to these islands at low tide is a popular activity with tourists.
Between West Kirby and Hoylake
is the Royal Liverpool Golf Course. One of the oldest seaside
courses in England, this course hosts the British Open Golf
Championships in 2006.
