Midlothian Tourist Information

Welcome to Midlothian ...
Midlothian is Edinburgh's home county, but it has much to offer beyond the city itself.

Travel just a short distance south from the urban areas and you hit the scenic Pentland Hills, one of Scotland's most popular outdoor spaces and a perfect getaway for the local city-dwellers. Here there are many activities on offer, or for those who want to be even more adventurous there is the Midlothian Snowsports Centre.

This is an area is steeped with history, due to its position as a major the route from Edinburgh to the Scottish Borders and the South. The vast majority of Scotland's great and the good (and not so good) have passed by, including Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie. The enigmatic Rossyln Chapel in Roslin has captured the imagination since it was featured in The Da Vinci Code.

Midlothian is also proud of its industrial heritage. The Scottish Mining Museum near Bonnyrigg is set in the Lady Victoria Colliery, a former coal mine, and preserves the story of a vital industry that once powered Scotland.
