The self-styled Malt Whisky Capital of the World, Dufftown probably has a better claim on the title than any other.
With seven working distilleries in the town and the immediate area, Dufftown is the idea base to take in the malt whisky trail of Speyside and enjoy some of Scotland's finest spirts. The most well-known is the Glenfiddich Distillery, which produces whisky enjoyed around the world.
The town is very much geared to whisky-making and tourism, with a number of specalist shops and a Whisky and Heritage Museum.
Dufftown also has two spectacular ruined catles. Auchindoun, to the South-East is set high on the site of an Iron Age hill fort, while Balvenie in the north nestles in woodland overlooking Glen Fiddich.
