Lossiemouth is a working fishing town on the Moray Firth with some long and beautiful sandy beaches.
A planned settlement largely dating from the 18th century, it was developed as a port for the nearby town of Elgin. There is a Fisheries museum on the quayside that tells the story of the trade, and a history of the town - including its most famous son, Britain's first Labour Prime Minister, Ramsay MacDonald.
While some fishing boats remain, Lossiemouth is now better known as a harbour for leisure craft with a thriving Yachting Marina. It is also strongly linked with the nearby RAF base, home to operational squadrons of Tornado jetfighers and Sea King search and rescue helicopters.
Overlooking the sea, the Moray Golf Club is a championship links course dating from 1889, and considered one of the finest in Scotland.
